The CF Holiday Fund Exercise Grants help children maintain their physical from home during the pandemic.
Exercise is essential to maintain the health of children with CF and has a big impact on life-expectancy and the likelihood of suffering hospitalisations. Maintaining exercise from within a home is extremely hard and we have been purchasing exercise equipment to enable children and young people to maintain their fitness levels.
To date, we have purchased a variety of different types of exercise equipment’s, examples of these are:

E absolutely loves his bike and it’s so great for extra physio to help with his chest. E is a very active boy and loves to be outdoors riding his bike and playing football. Due to the pandemic E did become very anxious about going outside. The bike has boosted his confidence and is helping him to keep well in this difficult time. Thank you so much we really appreciate your help to get him an amazing bike.
During lock down L has found it challenging not being able to go outside. Even though she is only a toddler you can tell she has found it strange not being able to keep to her usual routine of outdoor physio and exercise, as well as not seeing her other family members. We received a toddler swing which has been a great distraction for her. As a family of three we are all very grateful for receiving our item from the cystic fibrosis holiday fund. Thank you all so much!!
J has been shielding since mid-March due to his CF. He has had a tricky couple of years spending months on the ward with his last admission just 3 months before lockdown. Being isolated at home has meant that J has had to stop his favourite physical activities which are so vital for children with CF to help with daily lung clearance...
Mum told us that, her 9 year old had been very scared to ride a bike again as he had an accident when he was 5.
He had a very nervous and wobbly start, but now he is confidently riding around a field unaided. It has done so much for his confidence, he’s so happy with his bike and that he can ride it.
Mum, also told us about her 7 year old who suffers from cystic fibrosis and autism has been very upset about their holidays being cancelled as he has been looking forward to it. Mum, told us that ‘He didn’t understand why we couldn’t go anyway and just wear a mask and wash our hands lots’. Since he got the bike he has been riding it and making the most out of his 1 hour exercise a day.
We were also able to purchase a trampoline for her little daughter. Mum told us, ‘It has been very difficult to do exercise whilst shielding as we were unable to go out. We did some of the Joe Wicks PE sessions which were great, but she got bored fairly quickly. Trampolining is fantastic for getting her out of breath and getting good exercise, it’s fun too as a bonus so she’s happy to do it several times a day.’
L is a big outdoor child she absolutely loves her trampoline and as you can see from the photo of her sulking...... she’s sulking as she had to come in for tea and wanted to bring the trampoline with her 😂. As a family we are very grateful for all the help you have offered us during these hard times we are very grateful.
