Our Covid Support Grants Explained

Our Covid Support Grants Explained

About Our New Grants:

Due to Corona Virus (Covid-9) The CF Holiday Fund has stopped all holiday programmes for the foreseeable future. This will be revised each quarter at our Trustee Meetings.

After consultation with our community in March 2020 we developed new programmes to address the immediate concerns of educational access, maintaining fitness and providing a little break.

Our new programmes are aimed at those most in need in the CF community and support the following key objectives:

  • Educational support
  • Emotional well-being
  • Fitness

CF households have been hardest hit by the pandemic with lengthy and extremely strict shielding, conflicting messages on risk and significant household income reductions as working parents were required to isolate with their children. Siblings without CF have been kept home when others in their age groups were able to return to school and household bills for food and heating have rocketed. Many children with CF already live in households with little spare income because of the demands of CF and this pandemic has compounded both the financial strain and feelings of isolation often associated with CF.

Access to essential online education, contact with peers, participation in online clinics to avoid travelling to hospital and online exercise classes require a reasonable quality laptop. The CFHF, when funding is available and through discussions with CF teams, are providing laptops to children whose families are unable to buy one themselves.

Exercise is essential to maintain the health of children with CF and has a big impact on life-expectancy and hospitalisation. Maintaining significant daily exercise from within a home is very hard and we have been purchasing exercise equipment to help. This has included: exercise bikes, treadmills, trampolines, bicycles, scooters, boxing equipment and more.

To apply for our Covid Support Grants please email the CFHF at info@cfholidayfund.org.uk stating the grant you are applying for and we will send you our application form via email.

Please note these grants are intended for families who are unable to afford the item themselves.

Exercise Grant

Our exercise grants are aimed to enable children to participate in physical activities at home. Children with CF are required to keep active and fit to enable their lung function to remain at a good level. The CF Holiday Fund is aware that not all families have the financial capacity to purchase exercise items for their children.

When applying for our exercise grant, we ask you to specifically choose which item your child needs to help them with their physio. A member of our team will then contact your CF team to validate your application. If approved, we will purchase the item online and arrange delivery to your home. Examples of items families have requested were exercise bikes, treadmills, trampolines, bicycles, scooters, boxing equipment and more.

The budget for our exercise grant is as follows:

  • 0-5 years old maximum of £150
  • 5-7 years old maximum of £200
  • 8– 18 years old maximum of £250

Staycation Grant

This pandemic has been tough on everyone and has had devastating effects on families and well-being. As children with CF were initially considered highly vulnerable and required to shield for a considerable part of the year, we wanted to be able to give our families a little break while at home.

The staycation includes a cake decorating kit from Lola’s Cupcakes, a movie voucher and a JustEat takeaway meal. After spending the afternoon decoration the amazing cake (all items needed are included) our families can choose and order their supper, watch their family film and enjoy the delicious cake after their takeaway meal.

Everything will be done by us to give you a smooth and enjoyable day, with nothing to worry about. You will be given a choice of dates to choose from and we will do our best to fit around your schedule.
